Professor Availability

I once had a professor named Bill Daly who called himself the Academic WAWA because any time 24/7 you could contact him with a question. I didn't take advantage of this because the course I had for him was a general course but he teaches politics classes as well and does the same thing. I was wondering what others thought about the availability of their professors. As a Computer Science major surprisingly very rarely are professors ever available whether it be by phone, email, office.

I don't know about your college, but my college has an email system that makes communicating with our teachers pretty easy (although some of them do have a tendency to ignore some email from some students). It's quick, simple, easy, and you can hide behind a computer. I like it especially when I'm trying to get a hold of a person that doesn't know who the heck I am and I begin to annoy them by asking five hundred questions about a certain course (which I'm currently doing at the moment) and they start getting ticked off. I know many of the professors here check their email several times a day. It's really neat. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/020.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Almost every professor I had was easy to get a hold of (especially by email since it's my college's official method of communication), and I'm an Accounting major.
