Ramlings about Stockton

The world of Computer Science is not what I thought it would be when I first came into college. I was expecting to learn numerous things about how computers work and how to basically do anything revolving around or about computers. The sad thing is in none of my computer courses have I learned a thing. Some of them I was never taught anything so have no real recollection of any discussion we may have had. In others I learned stuff for an exam or quiz and then forgot it moments after completion. With most of my classes I have had to look up what exactly professors are talking about on the internet. Most of the professors at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey I've had don't seem to know what they're talking about and display a character as if they just read the materials they need to teach the night before and cannot comprehend any questions you may have. One professor I have has repeatedly stated "I cannot explain it any better" and repeatedly asks other students to teach the class. THe sad thing is as a Computer Science major the only classes I have learned anything in were Business Law 1 and Business Law 2. Irony of ironies is the man who teaches these courses is a former lawyer. Holy crap someone who can answer questions and actually knows the material.

Now onto my real rant. This semester I decided I needed a real challenge. I signed up for 7 classes (the max the college allows is 21 credits). I have one two credit course that has already completed which was the Business Law 2 class previously mentioned, four four credit courses still in effect, and two one credit courses that require little to no effort. I figured with all of these classes I should have absolutely no free time. Well that would be a huge fallacy. For Business Law 2 all our homework was assigned the first day and therefore the first weekend of school it was done. One class there is never any homework. Two classes the homework is few and far between. One class we have homework once a week. In one of the two one credit course all we do is show up once a week and listen to a math professor ramble about some theorem he likes and then email a little three sentence summary to the professor about it. In my other one credit course all I have to do is write a paper about AI in Gaming (hurray for independent studies). I have obscene amounts of free time given my classes. I have now become experienced in what most students here at Stockton deem as "the college life," lounging around doing absolutely nothing and occasionally playing beer pong or getting drunk with friends and their friends who are random strangers to you until they friend you on facebook the next day. Due to this free time I have written songs for a grand total of two more CDs in which I shall attempt to record over Spring break. I also am writing a biography about my life in which I shall try to make into a pdf file for better viewing in which I shall type up over spring break as well. I have many projects that keep myself busy.

In the future I want to get certified to be a teacher but as with most associations here at Stockton it takes about three months for anyone to respond to any inquiries. More rants next time.
